چکیده

During casting of aluminum alloys, the partially solidified material is submitted to thermally induced strains that can lead to severe casting defects, such as hot tearing. In this work, carried out in the frame of the European project VIR[CAST], the rheological behavior of a partially solidified AA5182 aluminum alloy has been investigated in order to provide constitutive equations to predict hot tearing in direct chill (DC) casting. Porosity Prediction in Aluminum A356 Alloy Castings

A comprehensive methodology that takes into account alloy solidification, shrinkage-driven interdendritic fluid flow, hydrogen precipitation, and porosity evolution has been developed for the prediction of microporosity fraction in aluminum A356 alloy castings. The mathematical models presented are implemented in a computational framework consistent with those of commercial casting codes, allow...

INFLUENCE OF THE PRIMARY SOLIDIFICATION ON THE SECONDARY SOLIDIFICATION DURING SEMISOLID METAL (SSM) PROCESSING OF A356.0 ALUMINUM ALLOY BY MECHANICAL STIRRING

Abstract:   The aims of this research were to investigate the effects of semisolid metal (SSM) processing parameters (i.e., shear rates –times – temperatures combinations) on the primary solidification products and isothermal holding duration, subsequent to cessation of stirring on the secondary solidification of Al-Si (A356) alloy.   The dendrite fragmentation was found to be the governing m...

The Solidification Behavior of AA2618 Aluminum Alloy and the Influence of Cooling Rate

In AA2618 aluminum alloy, the iron- and nickel-rich intermetallics formed during solidification are of great effect on the mechanical properties of the alloy at both room temperature and elevated temperatures. However, the solidification behavior of the alloy and the formation mechanism of the intermetallics during solidification of the alloy are not clear. This research fills the gap and contr...

ROLE OF SiCp ON THE SOLIDIFICATION RATE AND FORGEABILITY OF STIR CAST LM6/SiCp MMCs

The present paper aims to investigate the solidification behavior and the forgeability of Aluminum alloy (LM6)-SiCp composites at different section of three-stepped composite castings. The temperature of the cast composites during solidification has measured by putting K-type thermocouples at the center of the each step/section, from which the solidification curves were constructed. The forgeab...

Solidification Behavior of Al-Mg Aluminum Alloy Using Double-Sided Arc Welding Process

As popular aluminum alloys, the 5xxx Al-Mg series, such as 5050 and 5052, etc., are widely used in applications such as automobile, pressure vessels, armor plate, and components for marine and cryogenic service. In this, as in all non-heat-treatable aluminum alloys, the weld metal zone is considered to be the weakest part of the joint and is the location of failure when the joint is loaded in t...
